Yes, I said it out loud, I am now the big 3-0! My girlfriends and I decided that since we all turned (or will turn) 30 this year, that we wanted to prove that we were 30 & flirty & thriving (yes, borrowed from the movie "13 going on 30") and to do that we thought it would be "fun" to run a half marathon. I actually had high hopes that they'd forget, but come January I got the e-mail from my friend Lisa telling us all that it was time to register for the race. We decided upon the Bear Lake, Utah 1/2 Marathon and I started training in 19 degree weather. I could not even run a mile when I started, so I had a LONG road to travel, but I made it!!! I was so proud of myself and my girlfriends for doing it! We were able to spend the weekend up at Jen's moms' condo and had a great time talking about the old days, our kids, who kissed whose boyfriend in highschool, how to best cut chicken, etc. I am so thankful to have such great friends who have loved and supported me since our days of high school.
A view of the beautiful Bear Lake. We started on one side of the lake and ran to the other side. It was a great running view.
The day before the big race picking up our packets.
The morning of the race was chilly and rainy. We went to bed enitrely too late. I was unable to fall asleep because I was so nervous, that I only slept for an hour and a half.
After hours and hours of training, I was SO ecstatic this moment had finally come!! I had envisioned it so many times. The only thing missing from my vision was the music, "WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, OF THE WORLD!" I know I'm a bit lame, but hey, it helped me with the long runs to envision this. Thanks to Kami & Jen for staying with me and cheering/pushing me along! Thanks so Lisa & Shauni for meeting us at the one-mile marker and giving me the boost I needed to finish!
After the race, we went back to the condo and ate and slept. Then we decided to make fools of ourselves by going out on the town wearing our race shirts and medals.
Lisa was starving and ate her whole enchilada (not really).**I did end up changing my shoes the week of the race to Mizuno and only got one small blister from them on race day. My blisters from my Saucony's are finally healed.**

That is awesome! I'm thinking I need to get some friends together for a big race and plenty of girl time. I will turn 31 in two months. I was nervous about turning 30 and what that would mean, but it's been a great year. I am so much more secure in who I am and care much less about what others think than I used to. I guess it's all part of the maturing process. Happy Birthday! Welcome to the 30's! :)
See 30 ain't that bad...you girls all look hot! Congrats:)
Wow...30, you are old! Thirty was easy for me, but I think forty is going to be a killer. You guys all still look fabulous. Congrats on the race. What a great way to celebrate.
Happy Birthday Melanie! I'm so glad you got to race and had a good time with good friends. Your 30th was much better than mine. But this year was fab! Here's to 30 something!
Mel, Thanks for the good times! It was so much fun to see you and spend the weekend together (my favorite conversation was about the chicken-hands down!) We definitely need to do an annual girls trip. Thanks for making the trip such a blast!
