Captain Dallin turned 6!!

My little pirate turned 6 on September 9th. After debating between a superhero or pirate party he finally decided, and we celebrated pirate style! We had a swashbuckling good time! I think I had just as much fun planning the party as the kids did playing the games.

He opened presents from mom and dad on his "real" birthday as his party was 3 days later. One of his favorite presents was a nerf crossbow: watch out Ethan & Gavin!

The invitations.
Dallin and I crumpled the paper, dyed it in tea, dried it outside, printed the invitation, then rolled it up and tied it with twine.

The refreshment table.
Here is a list of our food:

cannonballs: grapes
salmon: swedish fish
rainbow trout: multi-colored goldfish
peglegs: carrot sticks
ocean water: blue juice
sharks blood: red juice

Skull and crossbones cake.
This is his first birthday cake I have attempted to make. It was actually pretty fun.

Some of the decorations.

Decor.

The "crew".
When the kids came, they each got a sword, a bandana, and a pirate tattoo, which they all thought was pretty fun.

One of the games was essentially a ring toss onto the pirate ship.

I have to give Tad credit for this one. I came up with the game, but he designed our pirate ships. I got a refrigerator box from Lowe's and Tad fashioned them into two different pirate ships. We divided the kids up, and each team had 25 cannonballs (newspaper crumpled into a ball, then wrapped with duct tape). They had two minutes to throw the cannonballs back and forth and into the other pirate ship in an attempt to sink the other ship. After two minutes we counted which team had the most cannonballs on their side and their ship sunk. That team then had to "walk the plank", which was a 2 by 4 taped to buckets on each end. The kids loved this game and we played several times. We origninally planned to play this outside, but it was raining, so it got moved into our garage.
**notice the video at the end of the post**

The last game was a treasure hunt, where I read the clues and we searched all over, then each child got their own treasure chest.

Cannon ball fight!
Happy Birthday Dallin!! We love you!!

Wow!! You look like the best mom ever. I bet Dallin had a great time. I can't believe he is already 6. Brex cannot wait until the spring when he will also be 6. I told him not to wish his life away. I'm certain you would feel the same. Love you!
