On the last day of school, I picked Dallin up, and we headed over to a park to celebrate school being out, with some friends. I was hoping to get some cute pictures of him and some of his buddies. After being there for about 30 minutes, Dallin and his friend Ty decided to climb a tree. He was climbing and lost his grip and fell about 15 feet onto the dirt/mud. His friend came running over (from where I was sitting, I didn't even know there was a tree over where he was because I couldn't see it) and told us Dallin had fell and that his leg was "going the wrong way". That's never a good thing to hear!! My friend Nicole and I ran over there and sure enough, it was going the wrong way. She helped me carry him to my van and I drove him to the E.R. He was SO brave and barely even cried. I told him he had broken his leg and would need a cast and maybe surgery. He was most worried about getting a shot. Poor guy!! He ended up not needing surgery and the ortho doc was able to twist it back into place and cast it. If he was an adult, he said he would have needed a rod put in. Thank goodness kids heal so fast.

The first few days were really rough. He had a lot of swelling, so we had to keep it elevated and iced at all times and he had to go back to the doctors to have the cast split on one side to help alleviate some swelling. It took a good week and a half for the swelling to subside. He also had ALOT of pain for the first week. We gave him around the clock pain medicine. He is unable to weight-bear for 6 weeks, so Tad and I carried him to the bathroom for the first 2 weeks.
Some super cute girls from his primary class brought him a candy card and that put a smile on his face.
Nana & Grandpa sent him a lego set and some candy. Our dear friends the Parks send him a sweet package filled with adorable cards and treats and activity books. Our "Arizona grandma", Glenna, sent him a sunshine package too (everything in it was yellow). Our friends in our ward have been sweet with their love and concern too. He's had a couple of friends come over and hang on the couch with him to play wii.
He will have his long cast on for 4 weeks then he'll get a below the knee cast for hopefully (fingers crossed) just another 3 weeks. He can't put any weight on his leg the entire time. We just started doing crutches for trips to the bathroom and he gets up in a wheelchair a couple of hours a day, but mostly hangs out on the couch with his leg elevated, reading, playing wii or ipad or watching t.v. or a movie. His room is downstairs in the basement, so he literally LIVES on our couch!! Not an ideal way to spend your summer! He was especially bummed because he had to miss cub scout day camp (3 days long) as it was only a few days after his accident. He was also signed up for swim team and golf lessons this summer, which we had to cancel. I guess there's always next summer.
