This year for Thanksgiving we decided to do things a little less "traditional". We decided the night before that we were insane enough to attempt going to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade again. We went 4 years ago when I was pregnant with Ethan & Gavin. We packed the car up with coats, gloves, hats, snacks and chairs the night before. On Thanksgiving, we woke up at 5 am and got the kids in the car in their jammies and left the house at 5:30. We stopped at Dunkin Donuts for breakfast (breakfast of champions!) and got to the parking garage in NYC about 6:45. When we got to the parade route there were already tons of people, so finding a good spot was a little crazy and involved Tad crossing the street when the policeman wasn't looking and hoping he wouldn't get arrested (long story). The parade was FABULOUS and the kids loved it. We were standing behind a 10 yr. old girl and her parents (thankfully short), so Dallin could see great. Ethan & Gavin took turns on our shoulders and Logan hung out in the infant carrier with me. After the parade, we came home and I threw the turkey in the oven and we "feasted" (as Dallin says) about 5 pm. It was a great way to spend the day when family is too far away. Here are some of our favorites:
Sonic the Hedgehog
Kung Fu Panda
Buzz Lightyear
Scotty McCreery (winner from American Idol), and we also saw Miss America, Neil Diamond, and some other singers that I didn't even know who they were...
Pikachu
You may be thinking "Hmmm....aren't they missing someone?" Well, if you look in the far left you'll see Gavin being held by a lady with a black hat. We got acquainted with this sweet family from Wisconsin who had 2 teenagers with them, and the mom held Gavin off and on during the parade so he could see when Tad or I had to put them down to give our shoulders a break. She was so nice and Gavin was happy as a clam.
Santa is always at the end of the parade.
My kids were so excited to see him, and I was just as happy because that meant the parade was over and my shoulders would have a rest.

how wonderful you are close enough to do that! fun fun!!!
What a fun time! One of these years we'll be brave enough to take the kids to see the parade!
Glad you guys were able to get such good seats. That will teach us to sleep in an extra half hour. I'm happy to see all these great pictures. Some day you can remind your kids what awesome parents you are to brave NYC at 6 a.m. with 4 kids under the age of 8. Amazing!!
That is so much fun! I think it is great that you took your kids to see the parade- what awesome parents!
