Cape May
A couple of weeks ago Tad had a conference for work in southern New Jersey, so we of course went with him. I've always wanted to go to Cape May, which is the southern most tip of New Jersey, so we figured while we were close, we might as well. We took the "scenic" route down, which was along the coastline and through various "beach cities" and it was beautiful, but took about twice as long. I absolutely love light houses, so we visited and climbed the Cape May lighthouse.

I talked Tad into letting the boys get a little beach time in, which lead to three wet and sandy little boys in our car. Hmmm.... maybe not the best idea as we weren't prepared with towels and such.
Camping
The Friday night before Labor Day we were able to spend some time with friends making s'mores, staying up late and canoeing. It was a great time!
Roasting the perfect mellow for your s'mores is vital!
Our little family canoeing. Gavin is still talking about it.
Coney Island
On Labor Day, we went to Coney Island to check it out. We enjoyed the boardwalk, the carnival, and the beautiful ocean.
Hotdogs were invented at Coney Island, so we had to eat at Nathan's, the birthplace of the hotdog. Sad part is, I actually ended up eating fish and chips as that sounded good at the moment and not the hotdog. Tad did, so I guess we're good.
The boardwalk
Us on the boardwalk with the beautiful sandy beaches behind us. Tad took quite a few pictures of the "people of Coney Island" and is convinced I should do a post on it, but I'm not sure everyone enjoys seeing furry, and I mean furry, backs, people wearing thongs that shouldn't be, a homeless guy, a man walking on the beach with one of those metal detector things looking for money? Very interesting and entertaining, I must admit!
Brooklyn Bridge
Tad has always wanted to walk the Brooklyn Bridge as it's very historic and has an upper level where pedestrians can walk across, so on our way home from Coney Island, we parked and walked the bridge. We didn't make it all the way across and back, but close enough.
A view of the bridge from far away.
Us on the bridge.
From the bridge there are some beautiful views of Brooklyn and Manhattan.

sounds like you guys have had a great summer! I miss it out there! I am glad we got to see you last time we visited NY. Love the last pic with the nose picking- classic!
That is so much fun! End of the summer get-aways are my favorite.
I am pretty sure we have to move back to that area because there is still so much for us to do.
I love the pictures.
how fun to be so close to so many cool things!
Okay, you've almost convinced me to make the trek in to Coney Island. It really does look like fun. Can't believe I've lived here for 20+ years and have never been! Fun summer you all have had. p.s. LOVE Dallin's cake - it turned out so great!
