Post -Surgery Day 3

Before you get alarmed, all is well! Ethan & Gavin were both born with ankyloglossia, "tongue-tied" which means that their tongues were attached to the bottom of their mouth higher than normal. A lot of times kids born with this can out-grow it, but they didn't and their speech has been affected as they're not able to get their tongue out past their lip nor touch the roof of their mouth with their tongue.

So, on Thursday they had surgery done to release their tongues. The surgery was quick and went well. Ethan came out of the anesthesia crying and Gavin came out MAD, and he only wanted milk to drink, which they didn't have. So we stopped at a gas station on the was home from the surgery center to get him some. They have been eating icecream, pudding, popsicles, and yogurt for the past few days and loving it. Gavin woke me up this morning saying "ice" which means icecream, as he is used to having it for breakfast now. Poor Gavin will be sad when he realizes it was only temporary!

They're healing well, and will start speech therapy in three weeks to help them learn how to move their tongue into places that were impossible before. We are excited to hear them be able to learn more words.

I would include pictures of them laying around and feeling bad, but there aren't any because they have been running around and playing since Thursday night. Thank heavens! I was worried about their pain and how they'd deal, but they are two tough kids.

What troopers! That's so crazy though. Glad they're doing well.

I am so glad they are doing well. It amazes me how quickly kids recover from just about anything.
Having kids in surgery can be more stressful for the parents. Jack came out of his trying to rip out all of his IV's. I have been told that boys come off of anesthesia more dramatically than girls...not sure why?

Ice cream for breakfast? Sign me up.

I remember when Clole came out of anethesia when he had surgery. He was crying and his face looked all puffy. It made my heart break. We're glad everything went well and that the boys are doing good!!
