There have definitely been things that have taken time to get used to. Our ward members live 10-45 min. away, people don't do "neighbor gifts" at Christmas time, the beach here is called the "shore", many people have accents, they don't open the presents at birthday parties, etc. Overall, we have really enjoyed our move and have made some wonderful friends, and been able to see more of the east coast.
Things I love about New Jersey:
1-All of the trees, nature (New Jersey is named the Garden State for a good reason).
2-The animals we've found in our own backyard: deer, rabbits, squirrels, groundhogs, frogs, chipmunks, bluebirds, redbirds, and many unidentified bugs.
3-It's close proximity to NYC (We've been there several times and really enjoy it), and several other fun cities.
4-Our ward family.
5-All of the nearby lakes.
6-The price of gasoline ($3.71, one of the cheapest states in the nation). That and the fact that you can't pump your own gas. That's right, rain, snow or shine you sit in your car while the attendant pumps your gas for you.
7-No clothing tax (I totally need to get a new wardrobe to take advantage, right?). Tad says no.
8-Rita's (a creamery that has the best gelatti's)
9-New Jersey pizza.
10-The Jersey shore!!
Things I don't love about New Jersey:
1-Getting a tick on my head (yes, this is true) Gross!!!
2-Jug handles. Many intersections do not have left turn capability or turning lanes, so you have to turn right onto the "jug handle" before the intersection and curve around to be able to turn left (you've probably got to experience it to really understand).
3-The property taxes. (outrageous!)
4-Few to no indoor public pools.
5-The humidity (It says it's only 76 degrees, yet I am still sweating).

Congrats on 1 year. I've now moved east (though not as far) for 1 day and counting. I'm excited to get settled and enjoy more of my new city.
What in the world are "jug handles?" I don't understand.
One year! Holy cow that was so fast. I was so happy to talk to you yesterday. I am so sorry I didn't call back, a lady from my old ward showed up and spent 3 hrs at my house! It was quite the time. But I loved talking to you. You were totally inspired to call me. It was so nice to talk. I love ya. Ho wmany more years you got out there anyway?
I cannot believe you have already been there for a year. It feels like you guys just moved. Hopefully one day we will be able to come out and visit and see New Jersey for ourselves!
I'm proud of you-sounds like life was insanely crazy for the last year, and you seem to still be smiling. Tell me how you did it!
I love all the facts of your life in NJ. Nice to know what you're world is all about.
I love your lists on NJ. It's funny to read about things that I've been used to my whole life and realize how different it is in other parts of the country. We're sure glad you guys moved into our ward. Hopefully we can keep you here for a long time!!
