Gettysburg & Hershey Park

For our family vacation this summer we played in Pennsylvania. We went to Gettysburg then Hershey's Chocolate World & Hershey Park. We enjoyed 3 days and 2 nights away. The kids think staying in a hotel is the greatest thing ever, especially when we let them swim before bedtime. It was so nice to spend time together and not worry about cooking and cleaning.

This monument is in the soldiers cemetery and is near where Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address. It was really humbling to me to learn how many died in the Gettysburg battle and how many died in the Civil War defending what they thought to be right.

Logan was a trooper at all the sites.
If he is being held...he's happy. In his stroller or carseat....not so happy.

We visited the huge museum at Gettysburg. My boys were of course enthralled with the guns....

.....and many cannons.

About 51,000 soldiers were either killed or wounded at the Gettysburg Battle, so they opened up a cemetery shortly after where there are many numbered graves as their names were unknown.

Dallin is practicing his shot. He, Ethan & Gavin made up a game called "Union or Confederate". They ask you, "Are you Union or Confederate?" and if you say Confederate then they shoot you. Dallin really understood quite a bit about the Civil War and was appalled at the concept of slavery. Needless to say, they're all in support of the Union.

Love these two!!

There are several thousand monuments all over the enormous battlefield signifying what regiment fought there or honoring men who died.

Then, onto the Chocolate!!

At Chocolate World they have HUGE everything....2 lb. chocolate bars, foot-long licorice....like a candy wonderland! Not so good for dieting though.

This is our 3rd time to Hershey Park and we LOVE the place!

Gavin's favorite ride was the mini-scrambler. He's still talking about this ride.
I think he went on it about 5 times.

At the end of the day it started to drizzle, so out came our Hershey poncho's. Fortunately, the rain didn't slow us down much.

That looks like such a fun trip!
I have always wanted to go to Gettysburg, you have re-invigorated my desire to go.
We are coming out East in the spring, we will have to head up there.
